Basic Graph Theory in Exercises

This manuscript contains a list of 57 carefully selected exercises that I think provide an easy way into Graph Theory.

Doing exercises is known to be most effective in order to learn a new mathematical discipline. It supports 'learning by doing' that at the end enables you to really apply the learned material.

All the exercises are followed by a solution but you are invited to try yourself for several minutes. This ensures to develop and manifest the way of thinking that is necessary for Graph Theory.

Although it should be possible to read and understand this text without external resources, I recommend to use this account side by side with an introducing lecture on Graph Theory and to get well-prepared for examines or problems in practice.

In general, Graph theory comes out with a minimum knowledge about mathematics but has a huge amount of applications. This makes it very suitable to learn for students that come from non-mathematical disciplines like computer science, bio-informatics, machine learning, chemistry, engineering, etc. The exercises vary in difficulty and some would not be expected to be easily solved by a beginner. You will quickly observe that graph theory is a subject with very simply formulated problems that sometimes become very hard to solve.
